Custom software is software built for one business’s way of working, rather than a product you configure and work around. Modernising legacy systems

Many projects start with an existing system: a desktop application, an ageing web app or an Access database that the business depends on but nobody wants to touch. There are broadly three options. Rebuild when the system is fundamentally unfit and the process is worth keeping. Refactor in stages when the core is sound but the code is hard to change.
